Banksy's art began during the Bristol underground scene which saw artists and musicians collabarating. Musicians from the drum and bass and trip hop scene and graffiti artists created this Urban culture and Bristol Sound as we call it today.
Banksy really became popular when his style changed to producing stenciled images as these are quick to put up and Banksy could have an image done very quickly and more importantly without anybody from the authoriities catching him as obviously graffiti is illegal as it takes place on other peoples property.
Many of Banksy's images contain amusing slogans which is probably why he has captured the hearts of so many people. Banksy has had many exhibitions showcasing his work in both the UK and the states. Banksy has also painted some amazing pieces on the Israeli West bank wall which separates Israel and Palestine the two feuding countries. The most famous of these images is probably the little girl holding a bunch of balloons rising up - how's that for thought provoking!
Many Banksy images have gone on to be classics like Queen Victoria as a lesbian, The characters out of Pulp Fiction painted holding Bananas instead of guns. One of his most known pieces is the rioter shown to be throwing a bunch of flowers, this design is clever on so many levels no wonder it is so popular.
Along the route to all this adoration of his pieces he has of course angered certain people many critics believe Banksy's use of rats was clearly inspired from Blek Le Rats's own work. And more recently of course the feud between himself and King robbo for painting over the 25 year old mural.
All of this no doubt fuels even more interest in to the pseudonymous man known around all corners of the world as Banksy.
