We are not sure who came up with the original slogan but we do know the phrase Keep calm and carry on was meant to be used on propaganda posters early in 1939 when war with Germany looked inevitable. The crown of King George VI and the words conveyed a strong message to the people of the UK, the poster was never officially used but some did make it on to the street.
